Is fasting required for ALL the lab tests?
No. Few tests/profiles where Fasting is essential are as follows:

Do’s and Don'ts – Before blood tests
Plain water is allowed for most of the tests. Light dinner to be taken previous night. No alcohol 24 hours prior to blood test especially lipid profile. All medicines to be taken as usual especially thyroid medications.
Instructions for Lipid Profile test:
a) 12 hours fasting required.
b) Plain water ok. Black coffee/tea (tea-coffee without sugar or milk ok. Green tea ok
c) No alcohol prior night. d) Light dinner previous night.
Do medicines affect blood tests? –
Yes. Some medicines do affect blood test results and its a good practice to reveal to lab personnel list of medicines one is taking.
What is PP or Post Prandial or Post Lunch blood sugar?
PP/Post prandial/Post lunch blood sugar is done 2 hours after your regular lunch. Nothing to be eaten/drink within 2 hours till blood is collected except plain water. However, whether 2 hours post lunch or post breakfast blood sugar to be checked – for this your physician’s or diabetologist’s instructions are to be followed.
How to collect urine or stool for testing?
Lab provides clean plastic containers with cap for routine urine and stool analysis. Please avoid getting urine and stool samples in home cleaned containers. Lab also provides sterile containers for urine and stool cultures. For urine culture a morning mid-stream urine sample is to be collected after washing the private parts. If there are symptoms of urinary tract infection then any urine sample can be collected and brought to lab in half an hour. Stool sample to be collected very little.
Instructions for Semen Analysis
a) 3-5 days of abstinence must.
b) The test is available between 10am to 4 pm on WEEKDAYS ONLY.
c) Sample to be collected preferably in lab container and to be brought to lab in half an hour with noting time of collection.
